A Message from the Director
“Our hope for this course is that you will gain a new understanding- a broadened understanding- of Scripture and what God says about His heart for the poor. Through the true stories of poor families, I hope you will gain a better understanding of what they're going through and the challenges they face. I also hope you'll see how your gifts and abilities can serve a poor family and how your church can be involved beyond just giving financially.” -Ted Gandy.

Compassion by Command is an innovative resource for churches to explore the issues of poverty and delve
into Biblical directives related to the poor. Although the words compassion and command seem contradictory,
the Bible leaves no wiggle room on the Church’s responsibility to the poor. Proverbs 14:31 says, “He who oppresses the
poor shows contempt for their maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” Compassion by Command is a Bible study package, a training tool that shows the real life stories of those in poverty and provides practical
steps for churches to make a difference in their communities.
